Reiki (pronounced "ray-key"), is a gentle, nurturing method of hands on healing, developed at the turn of the 20th century by Master Mikao Usui.
Originally used in Japan, the practice has now spread throughout the world. As many ancient cultures believed, and modern science now verifies, energy flows around and through all living things. The Reiki practitioner is attuned to facilitate balancing the energy flow in the
body in order to optimize health and general wellness. Reiki is a technique which addresses the ENTIRE being: physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual levels.
What is a Session Like?
A Reiki session takes place with subdued lighting, optimally on a massage table (although a "zero gravity" chair can also be used), the client fully clothed, with relaxing music playing. The practitioner begins by scanning the client's energy centers (chakras) by placing his/her hands over them. There are 7 major centers present in the human body from the crown to the feet. Each is treated individually during the session, as well as any problem areas identified by the client during the intake conversation. Universal Life Force flows through the practitioner into the client clearing energy blockages and restoring balance to the body. How quickly this occurs is often linked to how long the client has been suffering from a particular health challenge AND how often they receive Reiki.
A session is usually an hour in length. The perceived effects of the session can initially be subtle: deep relaxation is typical, although more intense feelings (physical as well as emotional) can also be experienced during or even after a session.
"The far- reaching benefits of Reiki are often amazing, and the energy always works for the benefit of the patient"
